Grand Reopening of Baldy View Dog Park in Upland

$1.6 Million Dollar Project Completed On Time and Under Budget

Upland, CA – August 5, 2024 – The City of Upland is proud to announce the grand reopening of the freshly renovated Baldy View Dog Park at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024. This exciting event will feature a ceremonial ribbon cutting, the unveiling of a new rededication plaque, and a variety of entertainment and giveaways to celebrate the completion of the park’s extensive renovation. Event attendees will be the first to experience this newly redesigned public space.

Established in 1999, the Baldy View Dog Park has long been a beloved community asset. The original dog park design, implemented 25 years ago, had limited seating, no shade, no playground equipment, and failing water fountain and irrigation systems.

The City closed the dog park in April in order to begin construction, moving seating and fencing to a temporary dog park location at Cabrillo Park down the street. Upland residents have patiently awaited this grand reopening. It was worth the 4-month wait as the renovations have transformed Baldy View Dog Park into a modern and welcoming space for both pets and their owners.

The improvements added over 19,000 square feet to the layout with taller fencing, shade structures, concrete tables and benches, drinking fountains, waste stations, and improved landscaping, all designed to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all park-goers. Dog playground amenities include Tunnel Run, Ramp and Steps, Stepping Cluster, Adjustable Jump, the Tug Around, and even a Canine Condo! In addition to the dog park, the entire park received new water-efficient irrigation and asphalt and concrete improvements which will save water and support ADA inclusivity.

The funding for these enhancements comes from a combination of sources. San Bernardino County Supervisors Curt Hagman and Jesse Armendarez each contributed $500,000 in County Discretionary funding to make this park possible. Additionally, Luke Sugino Architects Inc. generously donated nearly $100,000 in design services for the dog park. The remainder of the funding comes from Quimby Fees, which can only be spent on parks.

“On behalf of our City Council and community, I’d like to personally thank County Supervisors Jesse Armendarez and Curt Hagman for dedicating funds to invest in our community, and Luke Sugino Architects for donating their services to bring this vision to life,” stated Councilmember Carlos A. Garcia, “We wouldn’t be here today without many people coming together and putting in the work.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be attended by local officials and community leaders who have supported the renovation project. Vendors and community partners, including Dogtopia, will be on hand, along with one-of-a-kind giveaways.

“We are delighted to unveil the newly renovated Baldy View Dog Park and we invite the entire community to join us for this celebratory event,” said Michael Blay, City Manager. “This park is a vital part of our community, and the upgrades will provide a wonderful space for families and their pets to enjoy.”
